Inhaling Powdered 5-MeO-DMT

Inhaling Powdered Toad Secretions Only Once Is Linked to Feeling Happier For a Month

In the last few years, evidence was emerging that several psychedelics appear to alleviate the symptoms of depression. Now scientists have tested a brand new chemical – and – early trials indicate that it, too, has potential.

As with a number of other psychedelics, this one comes from character, also. Specifically, we’re talking 5-methoxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine (5-MeO-DMT), secreted by the Colorado River toad (Incilius alvarius).

One of a small group of people, researchers headed by Maastricht University in the Netherlands found that inhaling dried-and-powdered toad secretions resulted in improved life satisfaction, improved mindfulness, and a decrease in psychopathological symptoms for the length of this four-week-long study.

According to the group, this result shows more study is required into the possible beneficial effects of 5-MeO-DMT.

“A recent survey among users of 5-MeO-DMT (toad, synthetic, or plant based ) indicated that most respondents utilized 5-MeO-DMT for spiritual exploration and reported mystical-type encounters of moderate-to-high intensity,” the researchers write in their paper.

“Interestingly, those respondents that reported that a psychiatric disease mentioned that 5-MeO-DMT had helped them reduce their symptoms of depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic anxiety, or efficiently deal with alcoholism and drug abuse.”

This includes such substances as LSD (from ergot fungus), mescaline (from the peyote cactus), psilocybin (from mushrooms) and ayahuasca (from a blossom ).

To research this stronger effect, the group set out to conduct an observational study of the possible antidepressant properties that the toad psychedelic may have.

Forty-two participants from all over the world completed baseline evaluations before inhaling a vapour of dried toad dust, and then did the tests again within 24 hours of the inhalation.

Then, 24 of those participants completed a final round of testing four months afterwards. Of these 24, many reported feeling better about their life, more alert, and less depressed, stressed and stressed four months after that single dose. And the more powerful their psychedelic experience, the more pronounced were the prolonged effects.

It is important to be aware that this isn’t necessarily indicative of the entire gamut of experiences, the researchers said, since nearly half of the participants that finished the 24-hour survey did not return for the final tests.

“Their reasons for not finishing the tests are unknown but potentially could be pushed by disappointments that emerged over the experience,” they write in their newspaper .

“Most participants recorded either’understanding myself’ or’solving problems’ because their purpose for attending the sessions. Other motivations included self-development, the search for a spiritual experience or religious recovery and curiosity.

“It’s unknown if the encounter from inhaling vapour from dried toad secretion comprising 5-MeO-DMT fulfilled the hopes and motives of all participants.”

So it’s possible that the participants who didn’t return might have had a lousy experience.

Therefore, if only the people who had a fantastic experience completed the tests, that could have introduced a decision bias to the results, because there was no control group. Additionally, the doses were eyeballed instead of strictly weighed, including another limit to the study.

“The current findings may therefore only be taken as a preliminary indication of the effect of inhaling vapour from dried toad secretion comprising 5-MeO-DMT on psychological health parameters,” the team writes.

The researchers also do emphasise that the analysis was done to decide if further study into the possible therapeutic advantages of 5-MeO-DMT is worth pursuing.

“This study indicates that one administration of vapour from toad secretion comprising 5-MeO-DMT produces rapid and persistent improvements in satisfaction with life, mindfulness and psychopathological symptoms, and that these modifications are associated to the potency of the heavenly experience,” the researchers wrote.

“These results offer evidence supporting further research examining the possible therapeutic effect of 5-MeO-DMT.”
